[edit] Album information
The album was recorded during performances on September 28 and 29, 1994 at the Olympia in Paris and contains mostly material from Dion Chante Plamondon. À l'Olympia featured the lead single "Calling You" which was a cover of an Academy Awards nominated song from Bagdad Café movie. Céline sang also Jacques Brel's "Quand on N'A Que l'Amour," as well as "Medley Starmania" which featured two songs unavailable on Dion previous albums: "Quand On Arrive en Ville" and "Naziland, Ce Soir On Danse" (Dion sang full English version of that song called "Tonight We Dance (Extravagance!)" which was included on Tycoon compilation in 1992).
The album was released in selected parts of the world on wings of The Colour of My Love success. Although À l'Olympia was unavailable in most important music markets (US, UK, JP, AU), B-sides of singles released there in 1995 & 1996 inluded tracks from that album.
The video with this concert was never released.
"Quand on N'A Que l'Amour," "Elle" and "Medley Starmania" were included on Céline's 2005 French compilation On Ne Change Pas.
Shows at the Olympia were a part of The Colour of My Love Tour.
[edit] Chart success
À l'Olympia sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, including 1 million in Europe. It was certified platinum in France and Canada, peaking at numbers 10 and 31 respectively. Leading single "Calling You" was released in France only (in December 1994), where it peaked at #75.
