"The Perfect Drug" Versions (also known as Halo 11) is an EP by Nine Inch Nails of remixes for the song "The Perfect Drug" released in 1997. The song "The Perfect Drug" was originally written for the film Lost Highway.
Though "The Perfect Drug" Versions acts as a single for the titular song, the original version of the song only appears on the European, Australian and Japanese releases of the single. In fact, though "The Perfect Drug" has been released on its own EP as well as the singles for We're in This Together and Into the Void, its only audio release in the United States, Canada or Mexico has been on the Lost Highway soundtrack. However, the music video for "The Perfect Drug" is available in the US on the Closure video compilation.

[edit] The song
"The Perfect Drug" originally appeared on the soundtrack for the David Lynch movie Lost Highway. In the movie itself, only a brief sample of the song was used.
[edit] Music Video
A music video for the single was directed by Mark Romanek and released on January 18, 1997. It portrays a despairing father (played by Reznor) who mourns a dead child in his gothic estate, losing himself in the consumption of absinthe. The theme was inspired by the art of Edward Gorey.
"The Perfect Drug" has been covered by Die Krupps and Nerve Factor.
[edit] Lack of Live Performance
It has been hypothesized that "The Perfect Drug" has never been performed live due to the drum solo near the end of the song simply being impossible to play live.
In the Access section of nin.com[1], "Sara" posed this question to the band, citing that the reason is because "...the drum solo would make Jerome's arms fall off".
Answer posted by Jerome Dillon: Yeah...there is a ton of shit going on in that one. however, this band is good enough to pull off anything from the catalog and we never rule out the possibility of playing any of the songs live. with the exception of "kinda i want to" ....
[edit] Reznor Reflects
On the 6th April 2005, whilst presenting the late-night Radio 1 Rock Show in the UK, Trent Reznor stated that "The Perfect Drug" was his least favourite creation. His reasons for this were the short production time and the "overblown" video.
[edit] The EP
"The Perfect Drug" Versions is the eleventh official Nine Inch Nails release. It consists of five remixes of the song "The Perfect Drug."
Notable remixes were by Reznor himself and Meat Beat Manifesto frontman Jack Dangers, whose remix opens the disc in a very UK jungle style. The DJ-only promotional vinyl copies had a remix by the DJ Aphrodite which was exclusive to this format and copy. Although the album has a remix by the composer group Nine Inch Nails, not all releases include the original track on the CD.
