[edit] Athletic success
Barnstable High School sports teams are known as the Red Raiders, a name they share with, most notably, Texas Tech University. Red Raider teams have fared very well in recent years, the most successful being the girls' tennis program. In the 2006 spring tennis season, the entire team went undefeated in the regular season and team captain Lauren Donnelly (her 2nd consecutive championship) and her partner Kourtney Kelly won the South Sectional doubles championship, also earning recognition as Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team winners. Under Donnelly's leadership, the Red Raiders are currently in the hunt for the team South Sectional championship.
The Barnstable High School Girls Volleyball team has won 9 State Championships in the past 13 years, including the past 3 State Championships. The team is currently on a 74 match win streak. Recent graduates include four Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastics Genny Moore, Katelyn Morin, Liz Auger and Carly Newton, who was also named Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year and Prepvolley.com All American.
Colors are red and white. Rival high school for sports is Falmouth High School, home of the "Clippers."
Barnstable Stadium Field is the sports field on the campus of Barnstable High School. It is home to the Cape Cod Crusaders of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL).
[edit] Fine Arts
Barnstable High School is well known for their fine arts programs, including the Red Raider Marching Band, in addition to the choral, orchestral and dramatic departments. In the late 1990s, the school received a major renovation and expansion. This project included the construction of the Fine Arts Center, which in addition to providing ample space for the school's active organizations, also serves as the home stage for the locally renowned Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.
[edit] Hazing incident
In September 2002, the Boston Herald quoted a police report that four members of the boys' track team allegedly paddled freshmen runners as part of a hazing incident.
