Battle of Aishiya
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Aishiya was fought on October 19, 1976, when a combined force of PLO and Communist gunmen attacked Aishiya, an isolated Christian village in a mostly Muslim area of southern Lebanon. The village was successfully defended by the artillery arm of the Israeli Defense Forces during the day, with 24 shells (each packing 66 kilograms of TNT) fired by 175-millimeter self-propelled artillery units. However, the attackers returned in the night-time and took the village. The inhabitants soon fled to Christian areas, but most returned in 1982.
