Brain Busters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Brain Busters were a professional wrestling tag team in the 1980's.
[edit] History
The Brain Busters were formed minus the name when the original Four Horsemen were formed in January 1986. The Brain Busters were two of the Horsemen, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, and they teamed quite often in six-man matches.
When Ole Anderson left, Tully and Arn became the team and they won the NWA World Tag Team Championship twice.
In 1988, they left for the WWF. Whereas most WWF wrestlers at the time had some sort of gimmick, the Brainbusters went against the grain and wrestled without a gimmick. The only changes Arn and Tully made to their style were pointing to their heads to show they were smarter than everyone else and the use of a spike piledriver as a finishing move.
In 1989, they won the WWF World Tag Team Championship from Demolition with an assist from their manager, Bobby Heenan. They held the titles through the summer and feuded with the Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty. In the fall of 1989, they lost the titles back to Demolition.
Their last main match was a best-of-three-falls contest against The Rockers. The match was broadcast on Saturday Night's Main Event. The Brain Busters won the first fall, but when they were not following directions in the second, Heenan got enraged and left the ringside area. They lost the second fall, and backstage Heenan fired them during an interview while they were still in the ring. The Rockers won the third and deciding fall.
They left in December 1989 but had to split up when Blanchard failed a drug test and the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions would not sign him back.
[edit] Opponents
The Brain Busters biggest feuds were against The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson), the Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) and The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) in the NWA.
In the WWF, they were against Demolition (Smash & Ax), "The Rockers" (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) and "The Bushwackers" (Luke Williams & Butch Miller).
