Charles Brown (Taranaki)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charles Brown was a New Zealand politician. He served two separate terms in the 2nd New Zealand Parliament as representative for the Grey and Bell electorate, being elected in 1855, resigning in 1856, being elected again in 1858, and resigning again in 1860. He later served in the 3rd New Zealand Parliament as representative for the Town of New Pymouth electorate, and in the 4th New Zealand Parliament as representative for Omata. He served as Colonial Treasurer (forerunner to the modern Minister of Finance) in the government of William Fox. He also served on the Taranaki Provincial Council, and was twice the provincial Superintendant for Tarakani Province.
Charles Brown should not be confused with Charles Hunter Brown, who was active in New Zealand politics at the same time.
