Clive Churchill Medal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This medal is presented to the man-of-the-match in the yearly Rugby League Grand Finals since 1986. The first recipient of the medal was Parramatta's Peter Sterling. The award was named after one of the greatest rugby players in history - Clive "the Little Master" Churchill, who played for and later coached the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He also played interstate football for NSW and QLD and played for, captained and coached the Australian Kangaroos. The recipient is chosen by the selectors for the Australian national team.
Bradley Clyde was the first player to be awarded the Clive Churchill medal after playing on the losing team, in the Canberra Raiders' loss to the Penrith Panthers in 1991. He is also the only player to ever win the medal twice. Brad Mackay, for the St. George Dragons is the only other player to win from a losing side, in the team's 1993 loss to the Brisbane Broncos.
