Daughters (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daughters (often called 'The Daughters' which is incorrect) is a mathcore band formed in 2001 in Providence, Rhode Island after the demise of Providence-based As the sun sets. Daughters have three releases, their self-titled EP, their Canada Songs LP and their latest full length album Hell Songs, which was released on August 8, 2006 on Hydra Head Records. Daughters have also announced they have started organizing the release of their third LP, which should be released in 2007. In the meantime, Daughters will be touring the United States, Canada, and some of Europe this fall to promote their newest release, Hell Songs.
Hell Songs is a departure from their prior, almost grindcore inspired earlier work. Replacing a shredding scream with whispers and coherent lyrics, frontman Alexis Marshall told CMJ New Music Monthly, "I've been screaming in bands for 11 or 12 years, and it's fucking tiresome and it's starting to hurt my throat. And it's uncomfortable and it's a waste of anything that I've written where I really feel I wrote something good." Musically, the album also contrasts from the band's former material in incorporating Nick Sadler's more jagged, angular guitar work that accompanies Marshall's new vocal style.
