East Champaran

East Champaran is an administrative district in the state of Bihar in India. The district headquarters are located at Motihari. The district occupies an area of 3969 km² and has a population of 3,933,636 (as of 2001). East Champaran is a part of Tirhut Division.

Mehsi is the entry point of East Champaran connected with Rail and Road both. This small place has number of visiting places at the east side of Railway Station. Mirza Halim Shah mosque, dargah, A very old library 'Nagrik Pustakalaya', Old High school of english period, Orchards of Lichi and mangoes and other places of interest.
The basic lively-hood is agriculture and cottage industry.
The very famous cottage industry is for making Buttons from shells, sometimes referred to as mother-of-pearl (shell - a hard outer case of many molluscs, oyster — bivalve mollusc, esp. an edible kind, sometimes producing a pearl).
The shells are taken from rivers specially flowing through Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The product, buttons and other ornamental pieces are sold in domestic and international market.
