From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edward J. Davenport (February 9, 1899—June 24, 1953) served on the Los Angeles City Council from 1945 until his death. On September 1, 1953 the Council appointed his wife Harriett to replace him. This was the first instance of a Los Angeles City Councilmember being succeeded by a spouse. This would not happen again until the death of fellow Pennsylvania native Robert Stevenson in 1975.
