Fiction Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The history of Fiction Records can be divided into two parts. The original start up was in 1978, by Chris Parry as a home for The Cure. Other notable acts to release on Fiction around this time were the Purple Hearts, Associates and Eat.
After a dormant period of several years, the label was then re-started in 2004 by Joe Munns, Paul Smernicki and Jim Chancellor as a Polydor imprint. The first release on the 'new' Fiction was the Snow Patrol single "Run" (which entered the UK chart at 5) and album Final Straw which has since gone on to sell over 2 million copies around the world. A second Snow Patrol album on Fiction was released in May 2006, which gave both label and band their first number one record. Other notable acts from the current Fiction stable include Ian Brown, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Grates, Stephen Fretwell and Humanzi.
