[edit] Bio
Sanchez was a South American drug lord who specialized in cocaine. He had an elaborate infrastructure for transporting his drugs - initially using submarines, later finding a process for dissolving cocaine in gasoline for covert transport. He also financed a televangelist, Professor Joe Butcher, in order to use his show as a contact point for his distribution network. Befitting his wealth, he lived in lavish style, with multiple homes and a hidden base where his drugs were processed. He had a pet iguana, which would perch on its master in a manner similar to Blofeld's cat. He was also known for his uncommon brutality in dealing with those he perceived as disloyal to him; it was not uncommon for him to kill a man for a single perceived disloyal act. Not everyone who crossed him was killed, as he believed there were "worse things than dying."
In Licence to Kill, Sanchez was being chased by Bond's friend Felix Leiter, a former CIA operative who was then working for the DEA. With the aid of James Bond, Leiter managed to capture and imprison Sanchez. However, after bribing a DEA agent with two million dollars, Sanchez escaped from prison and arranged an attack on Leiter, maiming him and killing his wife Della. Bond pursued Sanchez seeking revenge, and infiltrated his organization in order to destroy it. After Bond managed to set his underground facility on fire, Sanchez attempted to escape Bond's wrath, first in a Maserati, then in a petroleum tanker filled with his cocaine-gasoline blend. Bond managed to catch up to Sanchez and caused the tanker to wreck with both Bond and Sanchez in it. Just as Sanchez was about to kill him with a machete, Bond set him on fire and allowed him to stumble into his own tanker, causing it to explode and thus killing him.
Sanchez is an unconventional Bond villain, as he had no plans of world domination or acts of terror, but was merely a drug lord. It is possible that he and Bond would have never crossed paths had he never crippled Felix Leiter, triggering Bond's personal vengeance.
