GFAS-X1 Destroy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about a fictional weapon from the Cosmic Era timeline of the anime Gundam metaseries.
The GFAS-X1 Destroy is a gigantic transformable mobile armor developed by Adukurf Mechano-Industries for the Earth Alliance. It is very heavily armed and is also equipped with three positron reflector shields. Its armament includes 2 large dual beam cannons, a composite thermal plasma cannon consisting of 20 cannons around the circumference of its backpack, and 24 missile launchers on its massive backpack, an energy cannon and 4 CIWS guns on its head, 3 multi-phase beam cannons on its chest and beam cannon on both forearms. Each fingertip on the hands is also furnished with a beam cannon. The forearms can also be detached for use as remotely controlled weapons. It is easily capable of wiping out large numbers of enemy units, and can destroy an entire city in a matter of minutes. In mobile armor mode, the Destroy is capable of hovering at low altitudes and propelling itself forward with its thrusters. It is also questionable whether the Destroy is also equipped with a "Geschmeidig Panzer" system as in one scene where the beams were refracted around the mobile suit rather than stopped, which is consistent with a "Geschmeidig Panzer" system rather than a positron deflector.
The GFAS-X1 Destroy uses the operating system Gigantic Unilateral Numerous Dominating Ammunition Fortress.
The Destroy is stationed aboard the land carrier Bonaparte and then piloted by Extended Natural Stellar Loussier. It sorties several times against ZAFT-occupied cities in Eurasia, until it is destroyed in Berlin by ZGMF-X10A Freedom pilot Kira Yamato. Later, five more Destroy units are deployed in defense of Logos's "Heaven's Base" headquarters in Iceland, one of them piloted by Extended Natural Sting Oakley. These units devastate the combined fleet of Alliance renegades and ZAFT forces that attack Heaven's Base, but are in turn destroyed by the combined efforts of ZGMF-X42S Destiny pilot Shinn Asuka, ZGMF-X666S Legend pilot Rey Za Burrel, and ZGMF-X56S Impulse pilot Lunamaria Hawke.
Three more Destroys are stationed in the Earth Forces's Daedalus lunar base to defend the Requiem superweapon, but they are all defeated in battle by ZAFT's advanced mobile suits Destiny and Legend in a surprise attack.
This should not be confused with the GT-9600-D Gundam Leopard Destroy from After War Gundam X

[edit] Trivia
- Destroy's concept and design are very similar to the MRX-009 Psyco Gundam in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and its mobile armor mode closely resembles the MA-08 Big Zam in Mobile Suit Gundam.
- The detachable hands of the Destroy closely mirror those found on the MSN-02 Zeong. However, unlike those hands, these are completely wire-free and beam shield equipped. They also share the same name as Zeon's Sturm Faust rocket propelled grenades.
- The original Destroy Gundam, piloted by Stellar, was probably the only unit that proved it's worth as it took several attempts by both the Archangel and the Minerva to take it down, but not before utterly destroying Berlin. All other Destroy Gundams (all eight of them) were destroyed with little to no difficulty. This could be explained by the lack of the Destiny and Legend Gundam, that Stellar was not only an enhanced natural, and she was also mentally unstable at the time. Another reason that the other eight destroy units were taken out easily was because during the fight with the original Destroy Gundam, Kira Yamato had destroyed it in close range, revealing the fact that the Destroy Gundam's weakness is that it has little to no capacity for close-ranged melee combat (other than the rather useless CIWS installed in the head) and has very little form of defense against it.
