GSX-401FW Stargazer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about a fictional mobile suit from the Cosmic Era timeline of the anime Gundam metaseries - specifically the ONA Gundam SEED C.E. 73: Stargazer.
The GSX-401FW Stargazer is a mobile suit developed independently by the Deep Space Survey and Development Organization (DSSD), by a team of engineers including Selene McGriff. Holding a neutral status with regards to both the Earth Alliance and PLANT, DSSD created the unit as a non-combat mobile suit with the objective of exploring space beyond Mars. It is equipped with the new "Voiture Lumière" propulsion system, similar to that of the GSF-YAM01 Δ Astray but on a much larger scale. In addition, while the Stargazer is initially assigned to DSSD test pilot Sol Ryuune L'ange, using a detachable two-person cockpit, it is equipped with an artificial intelligence system that is meant to learn from the pilot and eventually be capable of operating the mobile suit without assistance. The machine itself as well as its operation support system are collectively designated as "Guider UNmanned Deployment Autonomic Manipulation" (GUNDAM).
Shortly after Lord Djibril's escape from Orb, Phantom Pain sends the battleship Nana Buluku and a force of mobile suits including the GAT-X105E Strike Noir and GAT-X103AP Verde Buster to attack the DSSD's space station, with the intent of capturing the Stargazer and adapting its A.I. system for unmanned combat mobile suits. During the battle, Sol and Selene pilot the Stargazer, which displays surprisingly impressive combat abilities. In addition to its impressive speed, the Stargazer demonstrates the ability to "capture" incoming beam energy, causing the beams to orbit the mobile suit and slice anything that comes within a few meters of it. While captured beams last less than a minute before degrading, this powerful defensive weapon allows the Stargazer to cause significant damage to the attacking GAT-X105E Strike Noir. Selene then forces Sol to eject, and orders the DSSD station to fire the Apollon A propulsion laser at the Stargazer. This laser, fired at 30% power, sends the Stargazer near Venus, carrying the damaged Strike Noir away as well. The Stargazer drains energy from the Strike Noir to replenish itself, then heads back to Earth carrying both Selene and the Strike Noir's pilot Sven Cal Bayang. 669 hours (27 days and 21 hours) later, the Stargazer is located by Sol in the DSSD scout ship Roclon. Whether Selene and Sven survived the trip remains unclear.

[edit] Trivia
- The unit's test pilot's name, Sol, is derived from the Sun's Latin name, Sol.
- "Voiture" is a french word meaning carriage, while "Lumiere" is a french word meaning light. This hints the propulsion system's function of using light to travel.
- There is also the possibility that the word "Voilure", the french word for a set of sails, was meant to be used but a mistake or a choice due to the japaneses' difficulty with the pronunciation of the letters "L" and "R" could explain the innaccurate use of the word "Voiture".
- On the command console where Selene issue commands to the Stargazer in stage II, HTML codes can be seen on the command screen.
