Ingrid (イングリッド) is a video game character from the fighting game Capcom Fighting Evolution and the PSP version of Street Fighter Alpha 3, and was designed by Hidetoshi Ishizawa (Neo_G). She also goes by the alias "Eternal Goddess". In Capcom Fighting All Stars, she had the nickname "Eternal Ray" (most likely relating to a ray of sunshine, given her attack theme).
[edit] Story
Little of anything is known about Ingrid, however, the PSP version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 gives away some possibilities about her true origins. Apparently, her source of power is derived from Psycho Power, however, it is unknown if her power is purely evil like that of M. Bison or converted into something similar to Rose's Soul Power. Ingrid also claims that she is the true bearer of what is called "Psycho Power", as she constantly tells Bison that Psycho Power is "her power" and that Bison has stolen some of it. It seems that her power is so intense that if given the chance, she could actually break Ryu's madness if he ever succumbs to the evil of Satsui no Hadou.
Ingrid also possesses psychic abilities similar to Rose, as she addressed Ryu and Rose by name even though both never revealed their names to her. Rose, on the other hand, cannot look into Ingrid's future as she did with other Street Fighters.
Also, there is a possibility that Ingrid can travel though time, as she mentions heading to the year 201X and seeing that Ryu has somehow become a monk.
The validity of her story is under heavy dispute, given how deus ex machina it is, and how little sense it makes (she flies off with the monument that's still present in Sagat's stage in Street Fighter II, and Charlie is officially the one to have killed Bison). Also, her claim to be more powerful than Rose or Bison contradicts much of Bison's displayed power in the Street Fighter mythos. It should also be noted that she didn't reappear in Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, indicating that Capcom may have scrapped her from the storyline.
Details about her character in Capcom Fighting All-Stars are sketchy, other than aparently she is the "Sun Goddess", and unlike the other characters specific to the game was born with her powers. She has one of the codes to disable Death's bomb threatening Metro City ("Isis").
[edit] Trivia
- Her theme song, entitled "Heat Haze", was sung by Maiko Kubo, and contains a series of six notes that resemble part of the opening riff from "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. This makes her the only Street Fighter character to have a full set of lyrics present in her stage theme, as opposed to the vocal samples used in Cammy's and Elena's themes or other songs that are not used in-game.
- While CFAS was never completed, her gameplay in CFJ (and later SFA3 MAX) seems for the most part unchanged save for her Sun Shot traveling much farther distance in a sine wave pattern, as shown by the video here.
- In her CFJ spriteset, sprite number 200 (starting from 0) is an odd miscolored sprite of a man. When the correct palette is applied to it (the one also used for her Midnight Bliss sprite), [the result] is a sprite that resembles Hard Gay. Exact reason for this sprite appearing in her set, or why it shares her Midnight Bliss palette, is anyone's guess.
