Jauch family
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jauch family is a German family, originating from Sulza near Jena in Thuringia, where Georg Jauch (1606-1675) was Burgomaster.
In the 17th century the family moved to Lüneburg. At Lüneburg Johann Christopher Jauch (German biography) (1669-1725) was Dean of the lutheran churches, while Johann Christian Jauch (1702-1788) became Dean of the lutheran Cathedral of Bardowick. Friedrich August Jauch (1741-1796) was Senator of the City of Hannover. Some members of the family followed Joachim Daniel von Jauch (1688-1754) as officers into the Saxon and Polish army, two of them, Franz Georg Jauch (b. 1681) and Heinrich Georg Jauch (b. 1709), serving as Lieutenant Colonels - Colonels in relation to the other regiments - in the Royal Guard of King Augustus II of Poland and King Augustus III of Poland.
In the 18th century the merchant Joachim Daniel Jauch (1714-1795) moved his business from Lüneburg to Hamburg. The Jauchs became the most important and wealthiest wood traders of Hamburg and reached the so called "Great Citizenship" (Großbürgerrecht) of the town. Auguste Jauch (German Biography) (1822-1902) became one of the well known benefactors to the poor of Hamburg. Colonel Hans Jauch (German Biography) (1883-1965), Commander of the Freikorps "Jauch", took part in putting down communist uprisings in 1920 and is founder of the Roman-Catholic branch of the family.
The family, which was not numerous during the centuries, lost half of its sons - all of them unmarried - in the World Wars.
The different branches of the Jauch family owned the manors of Wellingsbüttel (German Description), Schönhagen - erected by Hermann Jauch (1858-1916) -, Fernsicht and Krummbek.
