Joseph Utsler (born October 14, 1974 in Delray, Michigan), better known as Shaggy 2 Dope is one half of the Insane Clown Posse, along with fellow rapper Joseph Bruce (known as Violent J). Along with Violent J and their manager, Alex Abbiss, the trio founded Psychopathic Records. Utsler is credited for drawing the "Hatchet Man" featured prominently in the Psychopathic Records logo. Utsler almost died performing a concert due to a combination of low blood sugar and the flu. He was also a member of the Latin Counts gang.
Shaggy primarily mixes the music for the group, so he often sings backup for J.[citation needed]
In September 2003, he announced on The Howard Stern Show that he was engaged to his girlfriend of 7 years. His sons Cyrus Utsler and Isaac Utsler were born in 1996.
Utsler is also a professional wrestler with Bruce. They have competed for World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Wrestling Federation (WWF), CZW, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), XPW and their own promotion, JCW.
[edit] Solo releases
In 1994, Shaggy 2 Dope released a solo EP entitled "Fuck Off!" It is 4 tracks long, and in the booklet of the cassette version, there was an ad for a second Shaggy solo CD called Shaggs the Clown. Shaggs the Clown was never released. However, he started on another solo album titled "The Southwest Strangla", which he never finished. The title track "Southwest Strangla" was released on ICP's Forgotten Freshness Volume:1 album. All 4 tracks from "Fuck Off" are also available on the compilation of Forgotten Freshness Volume: 1 and 2, 2 disc set.
In 2004, rumors of a Shaggy LP surfaced. The CD was speculated for awhile, but no official date had been set for some time. InsaneClownPosse.com released the first single from the album online for any Juggalo to download, entitled "Keep it Scrubbin'" before the CD, titled "Fuck The Fuck Off" or just F.T.F.O. in abbreviation, hit stores on February 21, 2006. As if the release was not exciting enough for Juggalos as it was the first solo venture by Shaggy 2 Dope in 12 years, ICP announced that the release date for their first LP since the end of the Joker Cards Era, The Tempest, would be included in the liner notes. It was at the very end of the booklet and was originally scheduled for September 19, 2006. But on August 30, 2006, it was announced that The Tempest would not be released and no date been announced for the new release date. According to Weekly Freekly Weekly, in which Shaggy plays Guy Gorfey, the album has been delayed with no further information.
