Katy Mills
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Katy Mills is an outlet shopping mall in Katy, Texas, a suburb of Houston, Texas. It is owned by The Mills Corporation and it opened in 1999. Located in the Houston suburb of Katy, Katy Mills Mall is host to a tremendous variety of over 200 specialty stores, including Bass Pro Shops, American Eagle, Bath and Body Works Outlet, Neiman Marcus Last Call Clearance Center, and more.
Popular stores include Tommy Hilfiger Company Store, Books-A-Million and Polo Ralph Lauren Company Store. Its food court is notable for the nostalgic Johnny Rocket's, colorful carousel, and challenging Rock Wall. The mall also provides over 3,500 jobs for the local Katy community as well as a gigantic boost for tourism and the local ecomomy.
Katy Mills is a one-level facility that sprawls over 1.3 square miles. The mall has a "racetrack" design and one complete pass around the mall is approximately one mile. The indoor walking climate is very popular with local residents who participate in the Katy Mills Milers walking club and the StrollerFit program.
People from all over Texas, the surrounding states, and international tourists come to see this mall and take advantage of the name-brand outlet shopping. Many from Houston also come as well due to the wide selection of products and services. All visitors from over 50 miles away receive free coupon books and discounts, which makes the mall a popular destination for groups from central and southwest Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. Aside from the Christmas holiday season, the religious holiday Semana Santa is the mall's highest traffic period with many visitors from Mexico and South America coming specifically to Katy Mills for certain stores.
In July of 2006 Katy Mills is set to open the first Lane Bryant Outlet store in Texas. A popular recent opening is the Houston SPCA Pet Parade, a boutique gift store and adoption center for animals from the Houston SPCA.
