Krasnoznamyonsk

Krasnoznamyonsk (Russian: Краснознамёнск; German: Lazdenen/Haselberg; Lithuanian: Lazdynai) is a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the Šešupė River at . It is the administrative center of Krasnoznamyonsky District of Kaliningrad Oblast.
Population: 3,751 (2002 Census); 3,894 (1989 Census). A significant part of the population are Lithuanians. Lithuanian cultural organisations exist in the town [1].
Prior to World War II the town was in Germany. Until 1938 its German name was "Lazdenen", but as it was of Lithuanian origin (derived from Lithuanian name "Lazdynai"), the Nazi government changed it into "Haselberg" in 1938. After the World War II the area was annexed by the Soviet Union and the town was renamed "Krasnoznamyonsk".
