Kyle Sandilands

Kyle Dalton [citation needed] Sandilands (born June 10, 1971 in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian radio host, best known for hosting with Jackie O the weekday morning radio programs The Kyle and Jackie O Show and The Kyle and Jackie O Hour of Power. Both air on Sydney radio station 2Day FM.
He claims to have had a difficult upbringing after leaving home at the age of 17 [1]. His first foray into radio was a stint at a Townsville radio station after he lied on his resumé about working with Triple M. Ironically, he went on to work for Triple M, in both Perth and Brisbane. After switching to Triple M Brisbane's Austereo stablemate B105, Sandilands moved to Sydney in 1999, replacing Ugly Phil on the Hot 30 Countdown. Ugly Phil had recently divorced his wife Jackie O and left the country for the United Kingdom.
In 2001, Sandilands joined pop singer Joanne on a trip to Bali to shoot her video for her hit single "So Damn Fine". He was to appear in speedos in the video but rumour had it that he then changed his mind last minute and only appeared for 3 seconds in the video. In 2002, he was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother Australia.
In 2005, he replaced Ian "Dicko" Dickson as one of Network Ten's Australian Idol judges, for its third series. He continued to be a judge in the 2006 series of the show.
In September 2006, Sandilands was named the most hated Australian identity in a Zoo Weekly article [2].
On October 14, 2006, Sandilands and Jackie O won "Best On-Air Team" at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards [3].
He is engaged to marry pop singer Tamara Jaber. He lives with her in a waterfront mansion in the harbourside Sydney suburb of Woolwich.

In July 2004 Kyle and co-host Jackie O were involved in a verbal argument with the band Frenzal Rhomb(two band members are successful and well loved hosts on the Triple J radio station) over an incident which occurred at a music festival in Darwin. Jackie O reportedly arrived to MC the concert nine hours late. Offended, Frenzal Rhomb played music over Jackie O so she could not be heard on stage. Kyle then threatened to have Frenzal Rhomb's songs banned from Austereo radio stations [4].
In July and August 2005 Kyle was accused of "cooking the charts" by playing his partner Tamara Jaber's latest song on the radio. The allegations stemmed from current affairs program Today Tonight. In 2006 Kyle won a defamation lawsuit, which ruled that the program had defamed the radio host [5].
On 4 August 2006, Sandilands used his radio program to call Fiona Connolly, a columnist from Sydney's Daily Telegraph, "fat" and a "liar". She was 6 months' pregnant at the time. After calling her the "chick that I hate at Sydney Confidential" he also stated he "would hire a private investigator to film her and her family then I'm going to put it on a website and I'm going to show everyone what members of her family do that are dodgy." [6] He has since been banned by Austereo management from mentioning Connolly on air.

In October 2005 Kyle referred to eventual the Australian Idol 2005 winner Kate DeAraugo's arms as "tuckshop lady arms" [7]
In August 2006, he said to a male contestant who admitted he was a virgin, "You'll never be the Australian Idol and you'll always be a virgin." [8]
In September 2006 Kyle told 17 year old Australian Idol contestant Jessica Mauboy to lose her "jelly belly", referring to her stomach [9].
In October 2006 Kyle referred to Australian Idol contestant Bobby Flynn as a "mong" - which is a derogatory slang for the now-dated term mongoloid, referring to people suffering from Down syndrome. Kyle insisted that he meant no disrespect to those suffering from Down Syndrome, however, more than one current affairs show in Australia slammed him for his remarks. [10].
