Twin Peaks ran from April 8, 1990-June 10, 1991. The total number of episodes during the series run was 30.

In the feature-length pilot episode, the small town of Twin Peaks, Washington state is gripped by the murder of 17 year-old homecoming queen, Laura Palmer whose naked corpse is found wrapped in plastic. The eccentric and unorthodox FBI Agent Dale Cooper arrives in town to assist Sheriff Harry Truman and his deputies to solve the crime. Meanwhile, Laura's family and friends struggle to come to terms with her death, and how it might have come about.

Cooper's investigation into the murder of Laura Palmer continues, as her secret boyfriend James Hurley is interrogated, and it appears that both Leo Johnson and Dr. Jacoby may have some connection to the crime. Meanwhile, the various conspiracies, crimes and secrets of the townspeople begin to become more clear.

Cooper reveals a unique method of narrowing down the Laura Palmer murder suspects to Sheriff Truman and his deputies, while businessman Benjamin Horne welcomes his returning brother Jerry with some bad news, and the two decide a trip to One-Eyed Jacks is needed. That night, Cooper has a strange dream that elevates the murder investigation to a whole new level.

Cooper tries to deduce the meaning behind his strange dream the night before, and later at the funeral of Laura Palmer emotions explode over her grave. Sheriff Truman reveals to Cooper the existence of the secret society known as the Bookhouse Boys, and their mission against the evil in the woods of Twin Peaks.

Amazingly, both Cooper and Sheriff Truman manage to locate the one-armed man from Cooper's dream. Meanwhile, Josie Packward follows Ben Horne and Catherine Martell as the couple's conspiracy to destroy the Packward Saw Mill develops, and Josie then receives a strange message from soon-to-be-parolled Hank Jennings.

Cooper, Truman, Hawk and Doc Hayward venture into the woods for a revelatory encounter with the Log Lady and find the location of Jacques Renault's cabin. In the meantime, Audrey Horne continues her efforts to assist Cooper by taking a job at her father's department store, while Donna Hayward and James Hurley persue their own line of inquiry into Laura's death by taking Laura's cousin - Madeline Ferguson - into their confidence.

Agent Cooper goes undercover at One-Eyed Jacks along with 'Big' Ed Hurley to try and find his chief murder suspect, Jacques Renault. Unbeknowst to Cooper however, Audrey Horne too is undercover as a hostess. Meanwhile, Madeline Ferguson disguises as Laura, in a scheme by Donna Hayward and James Hurley to fool Dr. Jacoby and steal a tape recorded by Laura prior to her death.

In the first season finale, Leo Johnson embarks on a bold plan not only burn the Packward Saw Mill but eliminate his cheating wife Shelly, Catherine Martell and Bobby Briggs in one fell swoop. Things take a rather violent turn as Agent Cooper successfully lures Jacques Renault across the Canadian border and his involvement in the death of Laura is revealed, while later Cooper gets a rather nasty surprise on his return to his hotel room at the Great Northern.

In the feature-length season premerie, Cooper has a vision of a mysterious giant, as he lies bleeding from a serious gunshot wound. The various town citizens try to move on after the burning of the Packward Saw Mill and the night before, as Donna looks into the Meals-on-Wheels while to the amazement of all, it appears that Leland Palmer's hair has turned white overnight.

In the midst of the murder investigation and the aftermath of his shooting, Cooper is met with the grim news that his insane former partner, Windom Earle, has escaped from a mental asylum. Donna's first day on the Meals on Wheels leads to an eerie meeting with an old woman and her grandson. Audrey uncovers more about Laura's double life at One-Eyed Jacks, only for her investigation to become increasingly more dangerous.

Donna has a devastating confrontation with her parents and Ben Horne in relation to her parentage, Nadine's memory returns much the shock of Ed and Norma, while Pete and Andrew have a rather nasty surprise waiting for them at the Twin Peaks Savings and Loan. In the meantime, Cooper embarks on a fateful and strange journey into the Black Lodge.
