Matthew "Matt" Vernon Thompson Tilley[1] (born 1969)[2] is an Australian comedian who was born in Melbourne, Australia. He is best known as a presenter on the Melbourne radio station FOX FM where he has worked for the past sixteen years. [3]
He was raised in the Melbourne suburbs of Aspendale and Mt. Eliza. Tilley recieved his high school education at The Peninsula School, Mount Eliza. Tilley finished there in 1986 and a year later, before beginning his career as a stand-up comedian he began studying law for eleven years and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Monash University.[4][5] In 1997, he began co-hosting the 6am-9am breakfast shift on FOX FM with Tracy Bartram entitled Tracy and Matt in the Morning.[6] When Tracy left the station in 2003, Tilley continued his breakfast shift with two new co-hosts; Jo Stanley and Chris "Benno" Bennett and renamed the show The Matt, Jo and Benno show.[7] In late 2004, Chris left the show to focus on his stand-up career. From then on the show has been called The Matt and Jo Show. [8]
Matt Tilley is also known as the host of a number of television shows including The Great Chase which was broadcast on the Nine Network in 2003 and The Fugitive which was broadcast on Network Ten in 2002.[6] He was also a presenter on the radio host talk show The Chat Room which was broadcast on the Seven Network in March 2003 as well as a comedian on the same network in The Late Report in 1999.[9][10]
Matt is currently married and has three children.[11]
In 2005, Tilley released the "Gotcha!" CD entitled Cereal Pest, a collection of prank phone calls he made and played them on air at FOX FM. A sequel was released a year later on October 21, 2006. It reached number one on the Victorian ARIA Charts and number four on the national charts receiving gold certification.[12][13][14]
