Mauritanians held in Guantanamo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The number of Mauritanians held in Guantanamo Bay detainment camps is a matter of dispute. The United States released what they called a full list of all the detainees who have been held in military custody in the Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba.[1] But there are a number of individuals who there is reason to believe were detained in Guantanamo who are missing from this list.
Amnesty International reports that a teenager from Mauretania, Mohammed Al Amin, was captured and detained in Bagram and Guantanamo. The names of the Mauretanians the USA acknowledges holding are Mohamedou Ould Slahi, Ahmed Ould Abdel Aziz and Mohammad Lameen Sidi Mohammad.
WTOP reports that one of the Mauretanians held in Guantanamo was handed over to the USA by former leader Maaouya Sid'Ahmed Ould Taya.[2]
