Mike Allred
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mike Allred is a U.S. comic book artist and writer. He first rose to prominence with his work for small publishers including Slave Labor Graphics and Dark Horse Comics, especially for his character Madman. The Madman series later won a Harvey Award. He went on to gain further mainstream attention with the science-fiction/rock-and-roll comic Red Rocket 7 and his art for writer Peter Milligan's series X-Force a.k.a. X-Statix. He recently finished writing and drawing The Golden Plates, an adaptation of The Book of Mormon and drawing X-Statix Presents: Deadgirl. His wife, Laura, frequently works as his colorist. Allred's illustration style is heavily influenced by pop art and the commercial and comic book art of the 1950s and 1960s.

[edit] Other notes
- Many have felt that the short-lived animated television show Freakazoid! was plagiarism of Madman. During the run of the show, Allred remained silent on the subject. However, in 2003, he spoke officially on the subject for the first time via the messageboard of his official website. (See External Links below)
- Since 1998, Robert Rodriguez has owned the film rights to Madman. Both Allred and Rodriguez have teased the start of the film several times since then, with no actual production. Rodriguez has publicly stated that he intends for Allred to co-direct the film the same way Frank Miller co-directed the Sin City movie. (Interestingly, it was Allred who connected Rodriguez with Miller's attorney, thus making Sin City possible.) At the 2006 WonderCon in San Francisco, Allred announced that Madman the Movie was in pre-production and hoped to begin filming before the end of the year.
