[edit] Character history
Phage's host is called Carl. Like the other LF symbiotes, he was a volunteer for the Life Foundation Organization, an organization that was preparing for the M.A.D. fallout of the Cold War and provide a comfortable life for their wealthy clients after the impending nuclear holocaust. The Life Foundation was experimenting with the Venom symbiote in the hopes of making supercops to watch over their imagined fallout shelter utopia. He was picked from the organization's security force made up of cops, soldiers, and mercenaries. He was defeated by Venom and Spider-Man in Lethal Protector. Carl was the self-proclaimed leader of the LF symbiotes, though Scream led de facto.
Like his "siblings", Carl was having trouble controlling his symbiote and this lack of control over the alien inside him kept resulting in violence. Thus the LF symbiotes kidnapped Eddie Brock in Separation Anxiety in a last-ditch effort to communicate with their "others". Carl was later killed by Scream (as were all the other LF symbiotes but Scream) and what was left of Carl's symbiote combined with all of its sisters and brothers (except Carnage and Scream) to form the new antihero called Hybrid. His status is uncertain.
[edit] Powers and abilities
Phage possesses all the powers the original Venom has, including suit generated webbing, shape-shifting, superstrength and the inability to be detected by Spider-Man's "spider-sense". His primary method of attack is to form his symbiotic suit into long serrated blades and slash or stab his opponents.
[edit] Trivia
- Both Phage and Rampage are fan names for Carl. Phage was actually the nickname for the Xenophage, a giant predatory alien-monster that preyed upon symbiotes, but the name Phage stuck in the symbiote mythos.
[edit] Appearances in other media
Phage is one of the six symbiote bosses in the video game Spider-Man & Venom: Separation Anxiety.
