[edit] History and known facts
The game was first announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata at a Nintendo marketing event in Japan on June 7, 2006.[2][3] At the event, Iwata described Wii-to-DS connectivity using the game as an example, stating that gamers with either Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl can play battles using their Diamond or Pearl Pokémon to Pokémon Battle Revolution using their DS as a controller.[4]
Key differences from other Pokémon console games shown in the demo so far are that the Pokémon can now actually strike at the opponent physically while both Pokémon are rendered on the screen (an example can be Pikachu in the first trailer directly tackling Deoxys), instead of seeing one Pokémon attacking and then cutting away to the second getting hit by the attack. However, it's assumed that the same style of gameplay as the older games will be used for slower Pokémon/moves to keep the pace of gameplay up. An example would be a Groudon slashing at Diaruga, as seen in a later trailer where the camera did its usual panning just like in the previous home console games. When an attack that strikes both opposing Pokémon is performed, it hits them both at the same time, as seen in the first trailer, when Wailord used blizzard. A second feature is evidence of destructible environments, as demonstrated with the severe attack near the end of the first trailer.
The DS linkup feature was demoed at Nintendo World 2006 for the first time. As well as allowing Pokemon from a Pokemon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl cartridge to be used ingame, it replaces the on-screen battle menu, normally used in conjunction with the Wii Remote. The battle menu is displayed on the DS touchscreen instead, and is navigated with the stylus. It is a sequel to the Stadium games. [citation needed] Up to 8 players can play in a 1 on 1 tournament, much like the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald. [5]
Other announced features include stadiums that have their own special effects, such as randomizing the order of one's Pokémon. It has also been confirmed that players can fully customize their trainer to use on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection even to earlier trainers. It is unknown if it will have mini games that will use the Wii remote capabilities.
Pokémon Battle Revolution will feature 10 different colosseums in a new land named Poketopia (translated from Japanese).[6]
