As you can see from the message on the bottom, someone has a name similar to mine (it definetly has nothing to do with the name being innapropriate), so I have been encouraged to create a new account, so don't bother leaving messages on this page anymore
It's a copyrighted image on the back cover of an album. Same as if it had been a photo on a page of a book or magazine or pamphlet. --pgk(talk) 18:34, 27 July 2006 (UTC) "Publicity photos, distributed as part of press kits by celebrities, corporations, candidates for political office, and others". Back covers of cds aren't part of the press kit. --pgk(talk) 18:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Then what is the proper copyright tag?
- Likely there isn't one. It is a copyrighted image for which we do not have a license for, we use some copyrighted images for which we don't have a license (if there isn't a suitable free alternative) under the fair user doctrine of copyright law, if there isn't a valid fair use rationale, we don't use the image. --pgk(talk) 18:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:02caddyshack vi.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:02caddyshack vi.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}

[edit] Show runner in Template:Infobox Simpsons episode
Regarding your change to Template:Infobox Simpsons episode where you added new parameter show runner. There is no explanation (in the history or talk page) and no reasoning. I made it optional so that the empty parameter will not show on episode pages. Please provide an explanation or I will have to revert it. Thank you. Srx 23:00, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- I added some info to the talk page and changed Show Runner to Show Runner(s) (should not it be Show runner(s)?). Closed issue for me. Srx 23:46, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Fair Use Rationale Image:Mrmike.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Mrmike.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't provide a fair use rationale. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. After that, follow the instructions here to add a fair use rationale for the image.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Also consider adding fair use rationales for images that need them You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images or fair use images lacking rationales will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 21:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "References" vs. "External links"
Please do not keep changing the "References" subhead; doing so is contrary to Wikipedia style and policy. I've made the rv as per these sections of Wikipedia:Cite_sources, quoted verbatim below. (Please note in Item 2 below that the italics are theirs, and not inserted by me.) Thanks
1)
- Complete citations in a "References" section
- Complete citations, also called "references," are collected at the end of the article under a ==References== heading. Under this heading, list the comprehensive reference information as a bulleted (*) list, one bullet per reference work.
2)
- External links/Further reading
- The ==External links== or ==Further reading== section is placed after the references section, and offers books, articles, and links to websites related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader, but which have not been used as sources for the article. Where there is a references section, editors may prefer to call the external links section "further reading," because the references section may also contain external links, and the further reading section may contain items that are not online.
So sources used to write an article go under "References", and other helpful citations go under "External links" if they're linkable and "Further reading" if they're not online. — Tenebrae 14:40, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Since you're making changes contrary to Wikipedia policy and guidelines, which I've given both on the article's Talk page and here, I guess we'll need to take this to mediation. I'm sorry you feel the need to disregard Wikipedia policy and also not have the civility to respond to a fellow editor. -- Tenebrae 02:32, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Registered User 92. I was reading your article on Michael Mercantel and would like to know if you plan on expanding it, or your plans in general for it. [edit] Guitarist infobox
Hi there - I noticed you removed the guitarist infobox from the Robert Johnson article and provided some criticism. WikiProject Guitarists is brand new, and the infobox and talk page notice were added as part of the project. Would you be interested in joining the project, and to help develop the infobox? We are in need of members who want to work on guitarist articles, or help improve the project. The infobox is essentially in its first iteration - you are the first one to comment on it. If you have any suggestions, I would be glad to implement them (color changes, content changes, etc.) Thanks! --Aguerriero (talk) 22:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the awesome work on the guitarist infobox! It looks much better now. That was my first stab at making an infobox, so it was a little rough. As an aside, I am looking for the right coding so people can just type the image file name in, without all the parameters, and it will display the way we want it. What do you think about the rest of the project? Incidentally, Jeff Beck is a terrific article - perhaps we can cite it in the project of a good example of a thorough guitarist article. --Aguerriero (talk) 13:44, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jeff Beck Image
Would you mind if I were to use the original Jeff Beck image for the Jeff beck infobox instead of the current one. The current one barely lets you see his face from his hair and guitar in the way and is less photogenic compared to the old one. I didn't want to simply revert your image because its usually rude and you did a wonderful job on the infobox and I don't want to change it without your approval. If you have major objections to the image change please notify me and I just want to say the new infoboxes you've done look spectacular, so keep doing them! and best of luck in the future. - Patman2648 00:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- The problem I have with the old image is that it does not fit well into the infobox that is being used on this article, and the more wide angle shot is better there, but if you insist I'll try and find a wide angle shot with more of his face in it.
-
- Yeah, I understand, the image would have to be at 200px for it look unpixilated, would this image be alright here be alright with you? - Patman2648 01:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- That image is alright, but I would rather have one of him with his guitar, like this one.
-
-
-
-
- Yeah, that one is pretty good. What if you could reduce the wideness of the infoboxes so that there isn't a reliance on wide images? (because its harder to find such wide pictures and ones that aren't pixilated/gritty) and although you may have the willingness to find these pictures some editors will simply not care enough and use narrow ones and make it look strange. Thanks again for doing this I really appreciate it, you'll get a barnstar from me very soon for this, I promise. - Patman2648 01:21, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:David crosby arrested.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:David crosby arrested.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image problems
All images must have a source (which must identify the copyright holder, if copyrighted), an accurate license (including evidence that it is a promotional image if marked as such) and, for copyrighted images, a detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image. Most of your uploads are missing one or more of this information. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously so please refrain from uploading any more images until you have fixed the ones you have already uploaded. Thanks. --Yamla 14:12, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Byrds-NotoriousByrdBrothers.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yamla 14:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unblocked
Okay, you've been unblocked because I truly believe you are trying not the violate the policy. --Yamla 17:13, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:BusterKeaton.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:BusterKeaton.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla (talk • contribs) 14:41, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked
You have been blocked again. As has been pointed out to you over and over again, copyrighted images must have an identifying source (which lists their copyright holder), an accurate license, and, for each use of the image, a detailed fair-use rationale. --Yamla 14:42, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indefinite block
Your username (Registered_user_92) has been blocked indefinitely because it is either inappropriate or too similar to an existing username (see our blocking policy for more information). You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username, and in a constructive manner. See Wikipedia:Username for guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account. You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username. If you would like to discuss the block, you may edit your talk page or email the administrator who blocked you.
Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible — if this doesn't happen within an hour or so, please email an administrator and explain the situation (see the list of administrators).
If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new one, please add the following to your user talk page: {{Username change request|new username}} (or {{ucr|new username}} for short). This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page. Note that this can only be done before you create the new one. If you wish to change to a new username, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username for information. In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is a lot easier to simply create a new account.

[edit] Image:RayDavies.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:RayDavies.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Chowbok 03:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
