[edit] Mass spectrometry edits

I didn't understand the purpose/benefit of some of your recent edits to mass spectrometry. Rather than revert them I thought I would ask first what your purpose was. For example I don't understand why there would be any benfit to removing good links to relevant articles. For example you removed the link to collision-induced dissociation but not IRMPD in the same sentence. Every other time I come across your work it seems to be very high quality and logical. This one makes no sense to me though.--Nick Y. 17:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Nick

Sorry for the trouble. I was running AWB to wikify adduct, and at the same time used it to prune some articles of multiple wiki-links as I believed was according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) item 1.1. I have previously noticed some editors being rather particular about not repeating internal links in an article, and I thought what was desired. My sincere apologies for that. I'll revert the edits save for the spelling corrections. Rifleman 82 19:07, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Büchner flask

Go ahead and fix Büchner flask. I'm done for now. I just wanted the hose barb to be visible.

[edit] Image:Wee Siew Kim.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wee Siew Kim.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kavadi carrier 11:09, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rank insignia

You have a valid point. I guess we should do two things - one, remove the rank from the Singapore box to show similar to the US box (and put a separate image of the appropriate Singapore rank), and clean up the size of the US box so it is definitely smaller than it is currently. What do you think? Rarelibra 16:58, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

That sounds fair. I'll remove the rank insignia on start-Specialist rank insignia-end and include the rank insignia as a single image. Would you help shrink other 2 infoboxes? --Rifleman 82 17:05, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll definitely help - it's always nice to clean up a space into something easier to use/read. I feel swamped with work, studying for my MBA, and map updates... ;) Oh, BTW - I appreciate you adding in the rank structures. It would be nice to see wiki articles that have rank structures for each country and expand them into the individual ranks like you did putting Singapore ranks in. Do you have a connection to the Singapore military? Rarelibra 17:46, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Good to know that the info I add is appreciated! In Singapore, there is conscription for all males, so yes, you can say that I and about 1/2 of the people above the age of 21 have a connection! I served in the infantry. --Rifleman 82 19:07, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:PI Wawona.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:PI Wawona.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

• Rifleman added the Wawona clubhouse image at my request. I will email the director of Project Insight this afternoon (though he may not see it until after the weekend) to get started on requesting and receiving permissions from whomever is in the position to grant them. Athaenara talk 22:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
  • The P.I. Director's permission is all that is needed: he owns the image personally and has given permission for its use in the P.I. article. Rifleman, I'm trying to find which image copyright tag should be used, out of hundreds which shouldn't, in the massive list at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Do you know which one should be selected? Athaenara (talk) 00:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] let's us co-operate

I think that it is much better for us to co-operate rather than fight each other. I wish you could delete this topic of Singapore passport soonest. I just BEG FOR YOU! It is no good to put every Singaporean stuff on Wiki and do hard sell. 70.52.75.25 20:59, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

You see! it is quite easy to put the topic here but it is extremely difficult to take it out. People can simply come up here and check the information about Singaporean immigration policy rather than asking Singaporean consultants (i.e. immigration companies overseas). Eventually these people lost a lot of business. Right now, how can you solve this problem, huh? I dunno, probably we couldn't do anything. 70.52.75.25 21:15, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Singapore passport

It appears to have been resolved. I was asleep at the time you put this on my talk page, so didn't get there until it had blown over. :) --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 01:25, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Whether it's blockable behaviour or not is different really from whether we should. If the storm has blown over it's a bit pointless to continue to batten down the hatches, if you see what I mean. I think we should just adopt a wait and see approach for this one. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 02:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
from the above statement, there is one more concrete evidence to show the world this person or admin. has clean words but very dirty mind, isn't it? 70.52.66.43 04:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
my dearest Rifleman, you do have vengeful mind and would like to block me. I didn't do anything wrong. Why do you hate me that much? I personally think that it is no good to put everything about Singapore on wiki. Actually I don't know why do you want to do that. 70.52.66.43 03:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No owner

There is no owner here in wiki. Everybody can come here and edit. On what grounds do you think what I did for the topic of Singapore and Singapore passport is considered as a vandalism? Anyway! I fear no "block". What I am using is a "mobile IP" from Bell Canada. It means the IP will change automatically if I restart. Your "gun" is basically useless. You can try if you don't believe me! 70.52.75.148 21:59, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I missed telling you something. For each time you revert me and give me a groundless warning or writing nonsense will be recorded in "history" and discussion forum(s), if necessary I will report to the related committee of wiki by simply sending your statement that your wrote. Even you are an admin, they may disqualify your status of admin. I am not going to escalate this but I will do it later in a ripe condition or "if necessary". 70.52.75.148 22:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Now I come back again with different IP. See! it doesn't work! 70.55.135.115 00:07, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
From the IP above (i.e. 70.52.75.148 or 70.52.0.0/16 as the active block list), one of the admin blocked (even range blocked) me because of your groundless request, but I think it is useless. Now you understand you are not my opponent. I can choose the IP I want! However, I am a good man and not going to vandalise wiki. 70.55.135.115 00:24, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] well!! I will come back to Singaporean topics later

now I think that you are closely watching the 2 main topics, namely Singapore and Singapore passport. So I think you will just simply revert what I am going to write whether it is constructive or something else without even putting any comment on any discussion board. I don't think that you even read it. So I am not going to mess up with you, but a bit later. Feel free to wait, my dearest man! 70.55.135.115 05:50, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

  • 70.55/70.52, please stop. Serious. You are edit warring. If you cannot discuss your concerns/problems properly on talk pages before reverting blindly, I will protect all the pages concerned. - Mailer Diablo 08:17, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recrystallization

Rifleman 82

I've done a bit of a rewrite on Recrystallisation, and it could probably use a second point of view. You show an interest in chemical topics - interested?

Quantockgoblin 14:18, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

I think that's an excellent piece of work. I've tried to tidy up some loose ends. Most notably, I've used the American spelling, recrystallization, to be consistent with the page title. --Rifleman 82 14:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Rifleman 82 - thanks for taking a look and for the make-over! - regards Quantockgoblin 14:58, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Rifleman - I have not come across an Alhin condenser before. What is it used for? Also, in a Google search, I wonder if it might be Allhin condenser instead? --HappyCamper 19:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

For putting two columns on Military brat, I didn't know how to do that, and it looks significantly better that way! Balloonman 16:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Rifle for your help with Military brats. Having read the article what did you think of it? Any thoughts/advice on how it could further be improved? I'm hoping to bring this up to GA status, but need feedback from others as to where I need to work on it and what I need to say. Any sections that were particularly good? Any that you thought were particularly bad needing a lot of work or should be eliminated? Did you feel as if it was NPOV and balanced? DOn't worry about hurting my feelings, I know that writing is not my forte (which is why I need solid critiques.) Balloonman 16:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Balloonman

I think it's a really interesting article. I notice you've been responsible for most of the changes and I think you've done a great job. That said, the article seems more like a term paper than an encyclopedic article. I feel that there should be less reliance on quotations. Rather, the article should describe the conditions and leave all the attribution in references. Let me take the liberty of suggesting how this paragraph may be rewritten:

User talk:Rifleman 82
Mary Wertsch writes, "Nothing in civilian life compares to the strict class segregation found in the military."[61] This classism center's around ones rank.[62] The facilities provided for officers and enlisted personnel differ dramatically. For example, the on base housing for officers will be significantly nicer than those for enlisted personnel. The officers' housing will generally be more accessible to base activities, larger in size, and better landscaped. Occasionally, on larger bases, the officers' housing will be broken down into different categories. Senior officers housing may be slightly larger and nicer than their lower ranking counterparts. On the largest bases, there might be a row of opulent houses referred to "Colonel's Row" or "General's Row." In these houses the highest ranking personnel on the base reside. On the other end of the spectrum, are the enlisted quarters. Oftentimes enlisted personnel will be assigned apartments and only then if space was available.

Apart from that, only the first letter of each section heading should be capitalized according to WP:MoS. The only exception will be proper nouns. Hope this helps and good luck with your article!

--Rifleman 82 16:52, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the thoughts... I'll definitely appreciate your suggestions. I'll probably go back through and get rid of a lot of the quotes... I included them because when I first started working on the article two and half weeks ago it was nominated for deletion and EVERY single sentence was challenged as OR. So, to answer the doubters I went heavy on the quotes... but I think you're right about cutting them down some. Thanks. Balloonman 20:01, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
