SG Wattenscheid 09 is a German football club, located in Wattenscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The club made its entry into the first Bundesliga in 1990.During the following three seasons the club narrowly could save itself from relegation.In 1994 Wattenscheid finished at 17th position and therefore had to go down to the 2nd Bundesliga.The long-year coach Hans Bongartz had already been fired.In 1998 Wattenscheid was relegated to the 3rd German league,the so called Regionalliga Nord.They have played there for six years until anew relegation in 2004.Today Wattenscheid is playing in the Oberliga Westfalen,although in the meantime the club was promoted back to the Regionalliga for one season.
One of the highlights since the Bundesliga relegation was the win over Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the national cup in 1997.
