Suite101.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Suite101.com is an online publishing website featuring opinions, recommendations and commentary from subject experts in over 2,000 live and archived areas. Currently (October 2006) the site has ca. 250 contracted writers, each of them posting weekly articles, blogs, polls, and moderating discussion forums.
Non-fiction writers looking to publish content can apply to become paid writers at Suite101.com. Only writers who have demonstrated experience and a published portfolio, are able to write Web-ready articles, and commit to contributing on a regular basis will be accepted by the site. Writers are paid on a revenue sharing model (Suite101.com's current rate is 2 US$ per 1,000 unique page views), and are compensated for material as long as it is kept on the site.

[edit] Content
The site has grouped its 400 topics (e.g. "Asian History" or "Pet Care") within 20 sections from "Business and Finance" to "World Affairs". Each topic offers wholly original articles, blog posts, and recommended resources. Each topic site also has a moderated discussion forum for registered members.
Writers publish material directly to the site, but are monitored by Section Editors and site staff for appropriateness of material, breadth of coverage, bias, and professional standards. Advertising partners do not influence content decisions. Writers are encouraged to be opinionated, yet objective, and to optimize their material for readers in search of soft news.
[edit] History
The website was launched in 1996 as a publishing community where hobby writers could write about their passion without pay. In early 2006, a group of media entrepreneurs bought Suite101.com, and the site was re-launched with new management, modernized navigation and design, and a revenue-sharing model.
The company is incorporated as Suite101.com Media Inc. and based in Vancouver, Canada.
