The Centipede is a character from the book James and the Giant Peach. He is one of the bugs that goes along with James to New York City.

- He loves to sing.
- At the end of the book he gets a job at a boot factory.
- In the end of the movie he enters the race for Mayor.
- He smokes cigars in the movie.
- In the book and movie he hates The Earthworm, and in the movie he also doesn't like Miss Spider but he seems to start to like her towards the end.
- He's a pest and proud of it, nobody knows why.
- In the movie, he hails from Brooklyn, New York
- In the movie, he claims to have sailed all the "five" seas as Commodore Centipede. (really just lived in between two pages of the National Geographic magazine.)
- Thought James' idea of tying the seagulls to the peach was stupid.
