From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, written in 1789, is an autobiography written by Equiano about his time spent under Euro-American slavery serving primarily on galleys. It documents his attempts at becoming an independent man through his study of the Bible and his cunning business plans. He eventually succeeds in gaining his own freedom and becomes wealthy.
The book contains an interesting discussion of slavery in Western Africa and illustrates how the experience differs from dehumanising European slavery. The Intereresting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano is also one of the first widely read slave narratives, and was generally reviewed favorably.
