[edit] Auckland suburbs
Hi Tom - welcome to Wikipedia! Actually I created a lot of the original articles you're talking about, and they've been doubled up recently (there seem to be about a dozen with duplicates, and Takapuna has three articles!). Since I was working from a road map and a Wise's Directory for a lot of them (I live at the other end of the country), they were a bit sketchy. The basic information about how to do article merges here. technically mergers should be proposed, but these look obvious enough that I doubt anyone would have any complaints (if they do, you can blame me!). To cut a long story short, what you need to do is to cut the information from one article and edit it into the second, taking out any redundant text (note in the edit summary where you added the information from). You then need to make the article you've cut from into a redirect, by typing
#Redirect Other article
That will make it link to the article you just edited.
As to which article to make into the final one and which one to make into the redirect, the general rule with New Zealand articles is approximately this:
- If the place is likely to be the only place in the world with this name, or if it's by far the best known version, then simply the place's name is enough (e.g., Otorohanga is a unique name, Dunedin is the ebst known place of that name)
- If there are other places in the world with that name, add ", New Zealand" (like Hamilton, New Zealand).
- If there are two places in New Zealand with the same name (rare, but possible), add the province name (like White Island, Otago)
For the most part, places with Maori names will be unique, those with European ones won't, but that's a very rough guide.
Hope that helps - if you've got any more questions, feel free to ask. Grutness...wha? 07:56, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Georgie Pie
Hi Tom, good on you for posting something about Georgie Pie. I have a better, more authentic version of the logo if you'd like. I'm finding Wikipedia difficult to work out so e mail me at tas2k1@paradise.net.nz and I'll send you a file back you can put up. Out of interest, and mostly from my memory, the logo was red and white until the early 90's then they introduced the yellow. I've also seen a magazine ad with a black and red version. Cheers Bryce
[edit] Connex Diagram
- I see that you are the author of the Connex Auckland network diagram. I was wondering if you would be interested in expanding the New Zealand National Rail map. --Matt von Furrie 00:47, 29 January 2006 (UTC) talk

- Hi Tom. Example you were after: Rail transport in New Zealand. Personally, I feel as so most of our maps of various cities, etc are lacking. But thats just my opinion. Take a look at the network map included in the article and send me a shout, if you like. --Matt von Furrie 11:41, 29 January 2006 (UTC) User_talk:Matt_von_Furrie talk

[edit] New Zealand Articles
- I've just noticed now that alot of the New Zealand articles are written in "our english". So i'm placing tags on a few of them. Have you noticed this? --Matt von Furrie 00:37, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Oh and also I just made this template {{NZ Globalize}}

[edit] Railway articles
Hi Tom. Been a while - so I thought i'd check in with you, and see if your still keen on expanding the New Zealand Railways articles? Please post back on my talk page. Cheers! --Matt von Furrie 23:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

- In my opinion (as i've stated previouslly), the articles are not in-line with other countries railway articles. I think it would be wise to expand them, as the Railways in New Zealand have alot of heritage. Possibly, we could both take pictures of some of the train yards or trains? And add various pictures. Toll NZ/Toll Rail could possibly be brought up to the size of Union Pacific Railroad, with the adding of pictures and more history information. These are all just suggestions, and require two or three people for it to actually work out. But it would be good to have someone else to work with on it with. Hit me back on my talk page. --Matt von Furrie 22:35, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Matt looking at the Rail Category in the NZ Wiki Portal - a lot of the rail articles need work on. Lots of red links, missing articles, lack of pictures, etc. I agree that perhaps a 'team' is need to help co-ordinate and expand articles that are currently there, then moving onto adding new material. I would like to work with you and others in that project. Tom Webb 22:54, 4 February 2006 (UTC) (cross posted this entry to your talk page)
- Hi, i added an article about the Newmarket Branch Line, please review/edit etc. Also, have no idea how to add to the List of New Zealand railway lines table on this page. thanks Martync84 08:52, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Martyn, good work. Have take your contribution and moved to a new page called Newmarket Branch Line to match other articles in that category and redirected Newmarket Branch to that article. I have added your listing to the template. To amend the template you need to edit the {{NZR Lines}} directly. Cross posted this to your user talk page as well. Tom Webb 09:26, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for that :-) Martync84 09:59, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
