[edit] History

WIBC went on the air on October 30, 1938, the last of the big four in Indianapolis. The other big four were WFBM (now WNDE), WIRE (now WXNT), and WISH/WIFE (now WTLC). In its early days, it was the Indianapolis home of the Mutual Broadcasting System. During the late 1980s and into the early 1990s, WIBC became a talk radio station.

[edit] Station broadcasting information

WIBC broadcasts using 50 kW of directional power during the daytime and 10 kW of directional power at night. Both the daytime and night time directional focus more attention on the southeast direction from the antenna site. The daytime directional also includes a small bubble to the southwest. More information is available at the FCC query for WIBC.

[edit] Programming

Currently, it broadcasts both local and nationally syndicated shows, primarily with a conservative slant (including Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and local lawyer Greg Garrison). WIBC programs The Morning News weekdays with Jeff Pigeon and Terri Stacy; an afternoon-drive program hosted by local comedian Dave "The King" Wilson; a weeknight news discussion, Live from the NewsCenter, with news director Steve Simpson, and Coast to Coast a.m. at night.

WIBC is the flagship station of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network (carrying the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and United States Grand Prix), as well as for the NBA's Indiana Pacers and the WNBA's Indiana Fever.

As of 2006, WIBC airs Indiana University football. WIBC will also regain the rights to the Indianapolis Colts beginning with the 2007 season, simulcasting the games with sister station WLHK.

Sister company Network Indiana produces Indiana Sports Talk, hosted by Bob Lovell, Friday and Saturday nights, focusing primarily on high school sports scores and results. The program is syndicated throughout the state.
