Silt Striders are fictional arthropods from the fantasy series The Elder Scrolls. They are about two stories tall (roughly 20-30 feet) and are used as transportation on the Dunmer isle of Vvardenfell. Round sections of the back of their middle segment, made of chitinous shell, are torn off and the driver or operator will simply touch sensitive tissues in the Silt Strider's flesh to give it signals to travel in different directions. In the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the Silt Striders are used as part of an elaborate transportation network that connects many cities, towns, and villages. This system is most often used for trade or civilian transport, and several towns, especially Gnisis and Molag Mar, have large "docks" used for mass deliveries.
Silt Striders are never seen alive in the wild, however in the Ashlands there are husks resembling a Strider's back chitin, but smaller, and Ashlanders often use these as crude shelters in their towns. These husks are most likely either skins discarded by striders through moulting or corpses.
