Project Gutenberg DVD-ROM (2003)

This DVD was created for people to have a large personal library. You can make copies, give the eBooks away, or do almost anything else. Read the “small print” license in each eBook’s file for more details.

In October 2003, Project Gutenberg’s 10000th eBook (the Magna Carta) was made available. This DVD contains about 9500 of those eBooks. We left off the Human Genome and most audio eBooks to save space, and we left off the books from Project Gutenberg of Australia in order to satisfy US copyright laws.

Read Michael Hart’s Comments on the 10K Special DVD.

Visit the Access listings to browse by author or title. You can also look at the GUTENBERG.ALL file, which lists the entire Project Gutenberg collection (most of which is copied to this DVD).

You can browse the eBook directories, but you will probably want the Access or GUTINDEX.ALL file to help you figure out which eBooks correspond to which filenames.

Please note that this DVD only contains the .zip files. This means that you will need to unzip them (usually to your hard drive) to view them. Nearly all of the eBooks are plain text, but there are also a number of *h.zip files, indicating HTML. For more file formats, visit Project Gutenberg online, at www.gutenberg.net.
