The Armenian Genocide refers to the massacres of Ottoman Armenians during 1915 - 1917. The use of the word genocide is highly disputed as the government of Turkey says that the deaths happened because of war between the Armenians and Ottoman Turks. The Armenians and many scholars who say that the genocide did happen say that 1.5 million Armenians were killed by the Ottoman government.
