- Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. - For persistent vandalism, personal attacks in edit summaries, and general inability to contribute in a constructive manner, I have blocked this school IP address for 3 hours. Rob Church Talk | FAHD 17:52, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Lots of bark, little bites. Final threats are made, further vandalism and flaming occur, more final threats are issued--who will really permanently block this address for all the vandalism and abusiveness? I did put in a call to the high school and for the network administrator, they gave me the computer science teacher Rob Rogers, 1-203-341-1200. He has received a voicemail message from the Wikipedia community warning him this address is being considered for permanent blocking due to vandalism and verbal assaults--[unless you all were just kidding]. The school's address is: Staples High School; 70 North Ave; Westport, CT 06880; USA. Maybe an administrator should get in touch with him...--12.150.146.82 18:28, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

We were just kidding
Sorry about all of this, we were trying to have fun and we promise not to vandalize again. Next edit off this IP I promise will be constructive...
Who was just kidding?
While the Wikipedia community is highly magnanimous, the "unless you all were just kidding" phrase above was originally intended for administrators, asking the degree of sincerity behind their proposed punitive/damage control measures. Nevertheless, I see the phrase has found a new home among Staples High School users. Please beware that while it may have been latched on to as a show of penitence, the absolute absence of humor in these displays of vandalism has been evident, whether or not you were "kidding". Magnanimous as we are, stop the vandalism we can all move on. --12.150.146.82 23:44, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
It was a group of students which included me who often got bored and just had fun with vandalizing articles here. But after what 12.150.146.82 said, we've learned our lesson and have now stopped. As long as no other students I don't know about start vandalizing...

Warning: Please do not add obscenities to Wikipedia. Injecting unnecessary swear words, racially or sexually abusive comments, or provocative pictures to articles or user pages offends many people. Wikipedia treats such actions as vandalism and blocks people from editing for such repeated vandalism.

When will this block end?
When will this block end? A number of legitimate edits come from this IP, don't block it for so long at one time. Is there a way to let logged-in users edit from this IP?--64.251.53.130 16:45, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- If you are a legitimate user affected by the block, you can e-mail the administrator who blocked the IP and ask him/her to review the situation. That's probably the best way to go about it; it also leaves a record as to the collateral damage involved, so that in the future other administrators will be better equipped to evaluate the length of the block. --Nlu (talk) 20:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

About all this vandalism
Yes, I do have to admit that there have been quite a lot of vile edits (well not to mention a few scattered constructive ones). The Computer Club here, as well as the computer staff (including Rob Rogers) are all aware of this, and we are aware that a two-month block was just removed to avoid collateral damage. It also is notable that the next "real" block is permanent.
Me and many others are aware of the problems Wikipedia is having from this IP, and it is quite embarrasing that a school as notable as this can be responsible for all of this. Although many of us have gotten the warning, there are nearly 1,600 students at this school, and it may take a formal school-wide announcement in order to stop this.
Computers are also quite abundant here; most classrooms have at least one in them, and many of them work quite efficiently. I hope no further action will need to be taken against this IP.

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for vandalism of Wikipedia. Know that that page blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and repeated and blatant violation of WP:NPOV are considered vandalism. In the meantime, please know that you are permitted and encouraged to continue to freely explore Wikipedia and use it for research and education. You simply cannot edit in any more vandalism. Please have your school's system administrator contact me if there is a problem with this and we can discuss how to deal with it.
