A.F.C. Newbury is a football club based in Newbury, Berkshire, in England with over 30 teams from seven years old through to veterans including junior teams, a senior squad, a ladies and several girls teams competing in national, regional and local football leagues and competitions throughout the year.
It was formed less than 10 years ago from the resources of three local clubs - Ecchinswell FC (founded 1906), Shaw Boys and Belles Junior FC (established in 1972) and Wickham U17 Youth Team.
The 1st Team achieved Wessex League status in 1996, their first season, by winning the Hampshire League. It also won the Hampshire Cup. Having twice already come close to winning promotion to the Dr Martens Southern League, finishing in 3rd position on both occasions.
The Reserves Team compete in the Wessex Combination League and won The League Cup for the first time last season. The U18 Youth Team play in the Allied Counties Youth League and the extensive range of Junior boys and girls teams play in the Peter Houseman League, the South Chiltern Minor League, the Bracknell League and the Vale and District League.
Despite the club’s relatively short history, the 1st Team has already reached the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and 3rd Round of the FA Vase.
Former Portsmouth F.C. striker, Guy Whittingham, recently served as their manager, however he resigned in June 2006 amid a financial crisis which has seen the club lose their ground and take an enforced drop to the Wessex League's bottom division.
