Alcyone

Alcyone (Greek: Ἁλκυόνη) was a Greek demi-goddess, sometimes regarded as one of the Pleiades. More often she was thought of as the daughter of Aeolus and wife of Ceyx, she had a son called Eosphorus and the king of Thessaly. They were very happy together, but, when Ceyx perished in a shipwreck, Alcyone (whose name means "queen who wards off storms") threw herself into the sea. Out of compassion, the gods changed them into the halcyon birds. When Alcyone made her nest on the beach, waves threatened to destroy it. Aeolus restrained his winds and made the waves be calm during seven days in each year, so she could lay her eggs. These became known as the "halcyon days", when storms never occur. The halcyon has become a symbol of tranquillity.
With Anthedon, she became the mother of Glaucus.

- Alcyone is the name of the brightest star in the Pleiades cluster.
- Alcyone is also the mystical name given to Jiddu Krishnamurti by C.W. Leadbeater in 1909. The book "At the Feet of the Master" was published in 1910 under the name of Alcyone. The text can be found at [1] and [2].
- Halcyone is a 1912 novel by Elinor Glyn.

- Alcyone According to Hindu/Vedas texts Alcyone is known as the Central Star of the Pleaidian Systemof which our Solar System itself rotates, this takes approximately 24,000 years for the complete revolution. This cycle creates two great cycles (Maha-Yugas). According to myth we are currently leaving the age of darkness 'Kali Yuga' and entering the age of enlightenment/Transcendology or the 'Dwapara Yuga' / 'galactic day' cycle, where the solar system becomes exposed to the galactic centre.
- Alcyone According to the Maya our solar system has an elliptical orbit around Alcyone (the central star) in a 26,000 period. The end of this period is Dec 23, 2012 and is supposed to coincide with the end of an even greater shift (of 9 cycles) from the Maya calendar which began 16.4 billion years ago.
Notes: Alcyone may be the ‘Missing Star’ responsible for the prominent sheer outer edge of the Kuiper Belt, Precession of the Equinoxes and other evidence supporting a ‘Grand Cycle’ theory.
Most stars are part of binary star or multiple star systems as their co-synchronous orbits allow stability (Dynamic Friction)within the Milky Way; thus it would be extremely unlikely for the sun to be exception to the rule.
