Alexandra Govere

Alexandra Govere, 18, is founder and president of numerous HIV/AIDS activist organizations, most notably the Kijana Project (formerly Assisting AIDS Orphans). She is of Zimbabwean, French, and American Indian decent, and spent much of her childhood in Southern Africa. Alexandra was recently honored as one of Teen People Magazine's "20 Teens Who Will Change the World," and has been featured in other publications such as Elle Girl, Essence, Girl's Life, and Crisis--the official magazine of the NAACP. Alexandra has also been honored for her accomplishments by CNN, The Foundation for a Better Life, and the members of various African and European royal families. At the age of 12, Alexandra became the first female of color to compete on the Zimbabwean National gymnastics team. She is also an accomplished ballerina, having performed with large companies in Oregon, California, and North Carolina. Alexandra completed high school at the age of 15 and is now attending Stanford University.
