Ashok Chandwani

Ashok Chandwani (1950-2003) was a Canadian journalist of East Indian descent based in Montreal. He was born in an Indian refugee camp to Hindu parents who had fled Pakistan following the Indo-Pakistani separation war. He immigrated to Canada from India in 1973 and in 1979, began working at the The Montreal Gazette. He wrote a weekly Monday column for the newsapaper based on his experiences as an immigrant. He was also an assistant management editor and restaurant critic. He worked there until 2002, when he was abruptly fired from the newspaper.
