Bergen County Technical Schools

Bergen County Technical Schools serves as the vocational / technical education arm of all the school districts within the 70 municipalities in Bergen County, New Jersey. The primary programs offered are the Bergen County Academies and Bergen County Technical High School.

Because technical and vocational schooling is always closely tied to the job market, the cornerstone of the District’s success has been its ability to adapt to the changing needs of local industry. In 1992, the Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology (AAST) opened and became the model for the seven existing magnet high school programs that meld college-prep level classes with a career focus. Secondary programs also include a full-time Technical High School in Teterboro, a Vocational High School in Paramus and shared time Technical Education Centers at both campuses.

For the 1997-98 school year, the Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology was named a "Star School" by the New Jersey Department of Education, the highest honor that a New Jersey school can achieve^[1].

In 2001, BCTS entered into a unique partnership with the Englewood Public School District in Englewood to create a new magnet school program, Academies@Englewood within Dwight Morrow High School. The Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders has been supportive of the initiative.

The Bergen County Academies, Dr. John Grieco Campus offers seven public magnet high school programs, geared toward hands-on, project-based learning. The Academies prepare students to meet the academic rigor of college and the corporate world beyond through a special blend of professional, technical and academic courses.
The Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro Campus, is a full-time public high school that provides a challenging, project-driven curriculum in a technology-infused environment. The curriculum is structured around a core of interdisciplinary technical and academic disciplines that prepare students for post-secondary education and career development work-based experiences.
The Bergen County Technical High School, Paramus Campus, is a shared-time vocational and technical training facility for Bergen County students, as well as a full-time public high school for students with learning and developmental disabilities.
