Best of the Best is a 1989 martial arts movie. The plot revolves around a team of Americans facing a team of Koreans in a point style martial arts tournament. Several sideplots prop up this story - moral conflicts, the power of the human spirit and triumphing over adversity are some themes. The movie stars Eric Roberts and James Earl Jones. Several sequels have been made. The movie was praised for its outstanding dialogue and script. However, several critics felt that Roberts "over-acted" his character.
[edit] Plot
Alex Grady, a widowed father of a five-year-old son, is chosen to represent the United States of America in a martial arts tournament against Team Korea, where the odds of winning are slim at best. Also on the team is Tommy Lee, whose brother was killed during a previous match with a member of Team Korea, and is now seeking revenge. Coached by Frank Cuzuo and Leigh Ann Wade, the team prepares to meet an unstoppable group of true martial arts experts, and along their journey they have to deal with their personal conflicts and tragedies, before they become a team.
