Elizabeth "Betty" Sutton is a politician from Ohio. She is currently the congresswoman-elect for the 13th District of Ohio seat in the United States House of Representatives, following senator-elect Sherrod Brown. She will be sworn in Jan. 3, 2007.
Sutton was born as the youngest of six children on July 31, 1963, in the Akron suburb of Barberton, Ohio. She attended Kent State University, from which she earned a Juris Doctor.
Several months after graduating from college, Sutton successfully ran for her first public office, earning a place on the Barberton City Council in 1990. After serving one term, Sutton chose not to run again. Instead, she focused on her career, and has been employed as an attorney for labor unions ever since.
[edit] 2006 congressional campaign
Sutton won the November general election against GOP Lorain, Ohio Mayor Craig L. Foltin, defeating him 61 percent to 39 perent, or 129,092 votes to 81,96 votes. The Chronicle-Telegram, an Elyria newspaper, and WKSU-FM reported that Foltin conceded the race even before all results were released.
Her campaign has received support from the pro-choice political action committee EMILY's List. [1]
