Blasted
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blasted is a 1995 play by British author Sarah Kane and one of the prime examples of in-yer-face theatre.
[edit] Plot
A couple (Ian and Cate) enters a hotel room. The setting suggests a lovely scene - but in the night Ian rapes Cate. With this action he unleashes a snowball of violence. Suddenly the couple finds itself in a civil war. Cate runs away from Ian. Suddenly a soldier enters the room. He rapes Ian, eats his eyes and then kills himself. While Ian slowly dies, Cate returns to him.
Cate is the light character of the play. In the beginning it seems that she is very weak but in the end she shows that her heart is filled with humanity and love - she did not forget what Ian did to her; but she sees in him a human being that requires her help.
