Breakfast on Pluto (1998) is a novel by Patrick McCabe. The book was shortlisted for the 1998 Booker Prize, and was adapted into a Golden Globe Award-nominated film by Neil Jordan in 2005.

[edit] Plot summary
Set in 1960s to 1970s, the story tells Patrick "Kitten" Braden's escape from small-town Tyreelin and a drunk foster mother, to find him/herself as a transgender escort and cabaret singer in Piccadilly Circus, London. Bad luck surrounds him/her until s/he finds temporary contentment with a British politician who acts as a sugar daddy. The latter is killed by the IRA, leaving Braden alone once again. S/he hustles in Piccadilly Circus, and later s/he is arrested on suspicion of a bombing, only to be released a few days later.

The 2005 film version of the story is directed by Neil Jordan. It stars Cillian Murphy as Patrick "Kitten" Braden and Liam Neeson in the role of the priest Braden believes is his/her biological father. (In the film this character is renamed Father Liam, although a number of reviews and press accounts erroneously have reverted to calling him Father Bernard, as in the book.) Cillian Murphy was nominated for Golden Globe (2006) as Best Actor in Musical or Comedy for his performance in the movie.
