Bristol Tramways

Bristol Tramways was formed in 1875 by Sir George White to serve the city of Bristol, which is situated in the West of England. Horse trams were used initially. Electric trams were introduced in 1895. At its peak there were 17 routes and 237 tramcars in use.
The Company also ran a fleet of omnibuses to serve the rest of the city and country areas.
Abandonment of the tramways began in 1938, but this was halted at the outbreak of WW2. Tram operations finally ceased in 1941, when a bomb destroyed the system's power station.
