[edit] History
The city of Brossard was founded on February 14, 1958 and was known before then as « Municipalité de la Paroisse de La Prairie de la Magdeleine ». Later, the territory of Brossard was increased twice: a portion of land #121 from Greenfield Park was added on August 8, 1964. Furthermore, Notre-Dame-de-Sacre-Coeur merged into Brossard on March 25, 1978 to form the current city.
Brossard was merged into the city of Longueuil in 2002, but voted for demerger in the municipal referendum that took place in June 2004 where the biggest demerger ever recorded, headed by Zaki Thomas, was scored. On January 1, 2006, Brossard demerged officially and Jean Marc Pelletier became the new mayor.
