CBX is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 740 AM in Edmonton, Alberta. It broadcasts the programming of the CBC Radio One network.
CBX's local programs are Edmonton AM, hosted by Ron Wilson in the mornings, and Radio Active, hosted by Peter Brown, in the afternoons.
The station was originally launched in 1948, serving both Edmonton and Calgary from a single transmitter site at Lacombe. In 1953, with signal reception in Edmonton deteriorating, the rebroadcaster CBXA was launched on AM 1010.
In 1964, the CBC launched separate radio services in Calgary and Edmonton. The 1010 frequency was reassigned to Calgary, becoming CBR, and the 740 transmitter was relocated to Edmonton.
On March 16, 2006, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission approved the station's application to add an FM transmitter at 93.9 MHz in Edmonton to simulcast the AM programming. This relay is expected to be operational by early 2007.
